the glow of freedom

A picture truly is worth a thousand words. The satellite photograph above was taken at night over Southeast Asia. The white outlines show the borders of North and South Korea with Japan shining to the east.

In North Korea, you can see the harsh reality of a society that has been devoid of the great economic opportunities that the system of free markets offer. It is a society truly ‘in the dark’ both literally, with a shortage of electricity-producing capabilities, and economically, as they are subdued by a regime of central economic planning via communism.

By contrast, the vibrant free market economy in the South illuminates not only the thriving cities and towns on a summer evening, but also is a shining example of what the spirit of free enterprise can accomplish in any culture that embraces it.

What more do we need to know before we invest in the economic miracle we call capitalism?
